Johnny Depp did it again -2010 People’s Choice for Best Actor, and Actor of the Decade. I missed the show itself, but caught his award on YouTube and have to say, the only thing sexier than Johnny Depp is Johnny Depp’s voice. Mmmmm mmmm.


Did you catch it? Sacha Baron Cohen’s intro made me laugh, it was so smart-ass and over the top. What did you think?

This doesn’t jive really well with my healthy writer resolutions (you can check out my blog every Thursday on Healthy Writer), but I’m working on that. My bread preferences definitely lean toward the savory or anything with fruit and nuts. Earlier this week I made pumpkin bread with struesel topping.   Today I’m thinking about a simple onion cheese biscuit type bread to go with the cream of broccoli soup I’m making for dinner.

Onion Cheese Bread
1/2c onions chopped & sautéed
1 tb butter
1 egg
1/2 c milk
1 ½ c biscuit mix
1 c grated sharp cheddar cheese
1 tb dried parsley flakes.
2 tb melted butter
• Mix ingredients in a bowl, except 1/2c of cheese and melted butter.
• Spread in buttered 8’ square pan.
• Score surface into ‘square’ biscuits.
• Top with remaining cheese and butter.
• Bake for 20 minutes in 400 degree oven.

This weather makes me think of the holidays, pretty wreaths made of colored leaves, knitting socks and muffins.  Yeah, muffins.  I’m a bread fan in the winter, but autumn is more a muffin kind of time for me.  You know, the quick and easy,  grab as you go, eat on the run, busy schedule but something solid kind of treat.  I’ll make dozens of different kinds of muffins between now and Thanksgiving (when my obsession will turn to winter foods, like soup and bread *g*)

So I figured, since I just popped a batch of pumpkin cranberry muffins out of the oven to cool, that I’d share with you my all time absolute favorite muffin recipe.  I use my gramma’s banana nut recipe, but toss it into those cute little silicone muffin cups for a fast, yummy treat.

Gramma’s Banana Nut Bread/Muffins

3/4 C sugar 3/4 t grated lemon rind
1/3 C  vegetable oil 1 1/2 C flour
2 eggs 3/4 t baking soda
1/2 t salt 1 C chopped walnuts
1 C ripe banana, mushed

Heat oven to 325. Beat together sugar, oil and eggs. Stir in bananas and lemon rind. Sift flour, baking soda and salt together, add to banana mixture and stir to combine. Fold in nuts. Spray muffin tins or silicone baking cups with vegetable spray, fill 3/4 full with batter. Bake 15-20 mins, or until golden on top and toothpick comes out clean. Let cool for a few minutes before gobbling up.
