Quick Six with the Awesome Anna Campbell!!

A huge round of applause for our awesome guest, Ms. Anna Campbell :-)   And the winner of Anna’s book is:  Joder!!! Congratulations.  You’re in for a treat.  If you’ll drop Anna an email, she’ll get Captive of Sin right out to you.

There are authors who definitely light up the publishing industry – not only by their talent but by their sparkling personality and fabulously entertaining wit.  Anna Campbell is one of them and a lady I am so thrilled to call a friend.  Simply put, she rocks.  So with no further ado (I’ve always wanted to say that) here’s Anna!!!

Hi Tawny, my fellow Romance Bandit! Thanks so much for having me back as a guest on Quick Six. captive of sin mm cYou’re one of my favorite people and one of my favorite authors so this is a double whammy for me!
November marks the release of my fourth book which is such a thrill for me. CAPTIVE OF SIN is a marriage of convenience story with a Regency noir twist. You can read a blurb and an extract here: http://www.annacampbell.info/captivesin.html
So onto the great questions:

1. Light or Dark?
Snort! I’m assuming you’re talking about chocolate. In which case, it’s definitely milk chocolate. If you’re talking about hotties, I’m not that fussy, actually, although all my heroes have definitely been of the tall, dark and handsome variety. Until now! The guy in the book I’m currently writing is a really striking blond. He was MEANT to be dark but I’ve discovered characters have minds (and hair follicles) of their own.

2. Candlelight dinner or dance club?
This one’s a no-brainer! I like to talk, I like to eat, I like to be treated like a princess. Clearly the candlelight dinner has it right over the dance club!

3. Scary movies or romantic comedies?
Again, a no-brainer! Definitely romantic comedies although I must say I’ve found a lot of the more recent ones really disappointing. I love some of the old romantic comedies like MY FAVORITE WIFE or SABRINA (with Audrey, of course!) or HOW TO STEAL A MILLION. I’m not much good with scary stuff. I got brave and bought the Exorcist two Christmases ago and I still haven’t generated nerve to watch it.

4. Bath or shower?
Oh, definitely bath, although these days time constraints mean the shower usually wins. I love to loll for hours in the bath with a great romance – although NEVER one I’ve borrowed! I also get my best ideas in the bath. Not sure why, but water seems to stir up my subconscious!

5. Dogs or Cats?
Actually I really like both! Can I have my cat and eat the dog too? Hmm, that doesn’t sound quite right!

6. Vanilla or chocolate?
Definitely chocolate! Preferably milk!
Hi Tawny, my fellow Romance Bandit! Thanks so much for having me back as a guest on Quick Six. You’re one of my favorite people and one of my favorite authors so this is a double whammy for me!

So onto the great questions:

OK, my either/or question is tea or coffee? Personally I’m a tea person! And I don’t mean that cold stuff you get in the U.S. that just seems WRONG to an Aussie ;-) I mean the classic hot stuff they give you by the gallon if you ever visit England. Yum!

One lucky commenter will get a used tea bag from the world-famous Anna Campbell Used Tea Bag collection at the Smithsonian… NO, that’s a joke!!!! One lucky commenter will win a signed copy of my latest release CAPTIVE OF SIN! Good luck!

Anna Campbell, always a voracious reader, decided as a child that she wanted to be a writer. Once she discovered the wonderful world of romance novels, she knew exactly what she wanted to write. Her first historical romance for Avon was the multi-award winning CLAIMING THE COURTESAN. CTC was followed by another multi-award winning Regency noir, UNTOUCHED. Her third book for Avon, TEMPT THE DEVIL, debuted in America in January 2009 and her fourth, CAPTIVE OF SIN, is a November 2009 release. CAPTIVE OF SIN was recently selected as one of Publishers Weekly’s top 100 books of 2009. When she’s not writing passionate, intense stories featuring gorgeous Regency heroes and the women who are their destiny, Anna loves to travel, especially in the United Kingdom, and listen to all kinds of music. You can always find Anna at her website www.annacampbell.info or hanging around the Romance Bandit lair. http://romancebandits.blogspot.com

  1. Quilt Lady says:

Oh a used tea bag of Anna Campbell is a must have! I will have to put it on my wish list! Captive of Sin sounds like and awesome read and I am going to have to get it.

Myself I am a coffee person in the cooler months. I must have that cup of coffee to get me going in the mornings. I do make that old cold sweet tea everyday for my husband and I do dring it sometimes but I try to stay away from it because of the sugar! If I am going to have sugar I want it in the form of milk chococate! You know chocolate and books just go together! Nice seeing you here Anna and thinks for sharing with us!

    1. Hi Quilt Lady! Lovely to see you again! Laughed at you wanting a used tea bag. Seriously, if you want one, I’m just about to make a cup, LOL! Actually I do that with sugar too – rarely drink those sugary soft drinks/sodas because I figure if I’m imbibing that much sugar, I’d rather chocolate or ice-cream! I used to be a coffee drinker and I love a nice frothy coffee out in a cafe. But home, it’s definitely tea all the way.

  2. Fedora says:

No, no! Quilt Lady, *I* want La Campbell’s used tea bag!

As for coffee or tea, I’m actually not much for either, but if pressed, tea.

Now chocolate, I’m all for, in any form! :D

    Lovely seeing you here, Anna!!

    1. Hey, Fedora, I think I could rustle you up a tea bag too. The world-famous Anna Campbell Tea Bag collection at the Smithsonian is always growing. ;-) Not a tea or coffee drinker, huh? My sister-in-law doesn’t drink either and I always wonder what she does when friends come around. I mean, we all have a cup of tea at my place (unless we’re raiding the cellar which is another blog altogether!).

  3. limecello says:

lol – teabags… not a place the brain wants to go.
Great 6! I agree on so many – except for the cats :X am still bitter a friend’s cat scratched me this summer. I guess I should be thankful I’ve lived my entire life til now without a cat/any animal drawing blood… but that makes it worse :P

Yay your books, Anna! And I feel the same way about scary movies. Haven’t even bought the Exorcist. Just owning it would be freaky enough :P

    1. Eeek, Lime, and now I’m scared to go into that cupboard! And my teabags have started saying ‘Lipton’ backwards. Which actually is NOTPIL so I suppose that’s good. I mean, a cup of tea is better than a pill in most cases ;-) Oh, dear, to the cat. We had lots of pets growing up, a wonderful collie dog and a succession of cats, most of which were not wonderful although I’m still fond of the species. So losing blood to animals is something I kinda take in my stride. Although if something bit off my leg, I probably would notice! Hmm, as well as having trouble taking it in my stride, now I think of it!

  4. CrystalGB says:

I am a tea person. Captive of Sin sounds wonderful. Love the cover.

    1. Thanks, Crystal. It IS a lovely cover, isn’t it? And even prettier in the flesh where there are roses etched all over it.

  5. chey says:

I like coffee, not the fancy stuff, just plain coffee.

    1. Chey, I hear you. I’m not into fancy tea either. I like just the plain old English breakfast style that you get with an ordinary tea bag. Not big on the herbal stuff either.

  6. Hm, this is tougher than you would think. I drink two cups of coffee in the morning, heavily sweetened and creamed, but I’ll drink hot tea when I’m writing–love the way the mug warms my fingers. And I definately want to be tossed into the frenzy vying for your book. :-)

  7. pjpuppymom says:

    Hi Anna!

Tea for me, please. I have a steaming cup next to me as I’m typing this.

CAPTIVE OF SIN is fabulous – in my Top 5 books for 2009. I highly recommend it!

    1. PJ, lovely to see you! And a fellow tea drinker to boot. We really have to spend more time together, my friend! We can compare how we jiggle our tea bags. Hmm, why does that sound a little bit naughty? Is it because I’m on naughty Tawny’s blog? Thanks so much for those lovely words about COS. I was so delighted when you liked it so much – the smiles lasted for days ;-)

  8. DEFINITELY

uhm, why can’t blog comments have spell check??

    1. Tawny says:

LOL – I hear ya!!! As soon as I find a plugin for that, I’ll get it installed.

      1. Snort, Margaret! What’s a stray ‘A’ between friends?

  9. Marilyn says:

Personally I like English Breakfast or Irish Breakfast, Earl Grey.

OK Missy, what do you mean “like the tea in the US”? Is it flavored or something?

Congratulations on all of your great reviews Captive is getting. xx

    1. Tawny says:

:-D Some teas ARE flavored. Ack!! My mother drinks a strawberry flavored tea that I just think does NOT deserve the fine title of tea. Quite a few restaurants offer fruit flavored tea, as well. No thanks, I’d rather have plain robust black tea. Iced, of course *beg*

    2. Marilyn, I thought my controversial point was going to be missed! Ha! I can see this is going to be the start of the great tea wars of 2009! LOL.

Actually I just don’t ‘get’ iced tea. They put it on the tables when we did the Atlanta and Dallas conferences and it just made no sense to me. I mean, tea is hot and milky not cold and full of sugar! I’ve had extensive discussions with my Southern friends about this but nothing they said has convinced me otherwise!

Thanks for the congrats on the reviews. They’ve been really great – which I must say makes an author smile!

      1. AAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHH! Even Tawny has fallen victim to the cold tea conspiracy! Actually Tawny I agree with you about the flavored teas – bleuch!

        1. Tawny says:

Does it help that my cold tea is unsweetened?

The only sugary drinks I like are Margaritas LOL

          1. Oooh, margaritas! Yum! Actually I don’t really think it helps that the tea is unsweetened. It’s purely a cultural issue but to me tea is hot and comes in a mug!

  10. Hey, Tawny, where are my manners? Meant to say a big THANK YOU for that lovely intro. And right back at ya, pal!

    1. Tawny says:

:-) And where are mine? I meant to be here offering iced tea when you arrived *beg* but we had a sudden rain and I’ve been out in the muck trying to rescue the table saw my husband apparently forgot to bring in. Those suckers are HEAVY, btw.

      1. Actually if I was going to annoy you, it would NOT be when you had a saw in your hand! Eeek! I’m beginning to think the Excorcist isn’t that scary in comparison! ;-)

  11. Annie West says:

    Hi Tawny, hi Anna,

Am still grinning over asking Anna whether she’d prefer a nice dinner or a dance club. After sharing several memorable meals with you, Anna, I think you made the right decision. You’re a fantastic companion over a meal!

Given the choice (I drink both) I’m a coffee person. I love relaxing with my husband over a freshly-brewed coffee on the weekend. A real treat. Tea’s OK but a bit bland. Give me Turkish apple tea or strong, sweet Eygptian tea and it’s a different story.

Congratulations on the release of Captive of Sin, Anna. I’ts a tremendous book – one of my faves of yours so far and that’s saying something!

    1. Hiya Annie! I did not know that about you not being a fan of normal tea. Actually these days, I keep a stock of the weird stuff in the cupboard that I’ve taken from hotel rooms. I’ve done a lot of travelling since I sold and hey, I’ve already paid for those tea bags, haven’t I? So next time you want green tea with jasmine or some equivalent up here, you just ask, my friend! Actually I’ve got a lovely photo of us having lunch at Punch Lane in Melbourne to go up on My Favorite Things in December. Annie and I take the other person out to lunch when we sell a book. It’s such a treat! This one was my treat to celebrate Tempt the Devil’s sale (yes, we are a little bit behind!). Thanks for saying those lovely things about COS, Annie!

  12. Tawny says:

Anna!!! Welcome to the blog :-) I’m so excited you’re here and want you to tell us allllll about CoS. Deets, funny inside stories, all that good jazz *g*

Seriously – How did you come up with the idea and how much did the story change over the course of writing it from your original vision?

    1. Tawny, I wish I could give you some goss. But this is the book the elves in the basement wrote while I swanned around on Richard Armitage’s arm attending various award dinners ;-)

Huh, what’s that? Wake up? Oh, it was only a DREEEEEEAAAAMMMMM! And no, writers, this is not a plot twist that you can really get away with these days in an actual book!

      1. My stories always change a lot between the cup and the lip – or the thought and the page! Gideon actually kept the qualities I wanted him to have but ramped them up somehow – I had quite a crush on Gideon. Charis changed quite a bit – my original conception of her was as someone who was a bit more girlish rather than womanish, if you know what I mean. Now she starts out as girlish but she comes into her strength more quickly than she did originally. A lot of the stuff about the house and the family history there just sort of came as I was writing – and that was something that was huge fun to put into the book. Kind of like I was channelling Daphne Du Maurier or something ;-)

  13. Margaret, consider yourself an essential part of the frenzy ;-)

I find tea really helps me concentrate my mind so I drink an awful lot of it when I’m working on a book. You should see my pantry – boxes of tea bags to the roof! I hear you on the mug thing – it really is nice, isn’t it? Kind of homey and comforting.

  14. Tawny says:

I’ll admit it, I’m an iced tea gal all the way. I really REALLY don’t like the taste of coffee, and hot tea makes my throat dry. ;-) Odd, I know. But I drink about two gallons of iced tea a day. Basic fuel purposes, of course.

    1. Tawny, that’s about how much hot tea I drink. Interesting it makes your throat dry!

  15. Nikki says:

I am such a tea person. I honestly have never had a cup of coffee in my 27 years (I’ll wait while you finish gasping….)
My British blood won’t let me touch a cup of Lipton and I begrudgingly use tea bags when I have to. I don’t even function in the mornings without at least a full pot of Earl Grey or Irish Breakfast (I like my tea strong enough that if you threw a horseshoe in it, it would stand up!) And as a true southerner, I can down several gallons of sweet iced tea in a sitting!
I truly feel that there are few things in this world that can compete with a good cup o’ tea, especially when paired with a good book!

  16. Helen says:

    Used tea bag LOL
Anna I love the answers I will drink either I make coffee at home but I have a best friend who comes from England and we have been known to drink a couple of pots of tea while talking for hours.

And if anyone hasn’t read Captive Of Sin yet what are you waiting for it is an awesome read and you will love getting to know Gideon and Charis.

    Have Fun
    Helen

  17. Nicole S says:

I don’t drink either. I love the smell of coffee, but I won’t drink it. I love hot chocolate topped with a dollop of whipped cream.

  18. Nikki, NEVER had a cup of coffee???!!! You deserve your own special glass case in my Smithsonian collection! ;-) And yes, I did gasp.

I had a Sri Lankan friend and he was appalled at my penchant for tea bags. He said they’re filled with the sweepings from the floor – I suspect he was exaggerating! Mind you, he probably WOULD know. It’s the convenience of a tea bag that I find appealing – I agree the leaf stuff tastes so much better. I like mine medium strength – I’ve got a tin of Fortnum and Mason leaf tea in the cupboard at the moment. That always makes me feel like the Queen when I take it out!

  19. Jane says:

    Hi Anna,
I like both coffee and tea, but tea is my first choice. My favorite tea is Pickwick. My aunt in the Netherlands occasionally sends us a tea package.

  20. Jody F. (Joder) says:

Okay, stand back everybody! I’ve been wanting this book so badly I’m willing to fight you all for it! LOL! (JK-I think.) Anyhoo, in answer to the question I’d have to go with coffee. I enjoy tea. I love the wide variety of flavors and how calming it is. But there’s nothing like my morning jolt of coffee goodness.

  21. Hey, Helen, what a lovely message. You can DEFINITELY have one of the tea bags from my collection, you lucky duck! Actually a good natter over a pot of tea is something special, isn’t it? Thanks for swinging by!

  22. Ooh, Nicole, I love hot chocolate too. But it’s not something I could drink all day whereas I can drink tea by the gallon. There’s a Lindt chocolate cafe in Sydney which makes the most wonderful hot chocolate from their own brand of chocolate. YUM, YUM!!!!

  23. Jane, my purloined tea bags feature lots of Pickwick teas as they’re quite common in nice hotels here, although harder to find in the shops. I have an American friend, Tina Ferraro, who said what she missed after her visit to Australia was the Pickwick teas.

  24. Fun post, Tawny and Anna!

Anna, as you know I’m a tea lady. It’s safe to say I keep our local tea shop (T2) in business. I love their creme brulee tea, to which I usually add yummy fatty cream, choc chip chai, and green rose tea. Mmmm!

Speaking of our lovely mutual friend Tina Ferraro, I bought her box of a Pickwick tea when I was in Holland. It seems to be the brand of choice over there.

    1. Tina Ferraro says:

And Tina Ferraro is still VERY grateful! Especially in the afternoons when she makes a lovely cuppa!

  25. Dorthy says:

HI Anna!!! Please don’t enter me for the contest. Even though a used tea bag of yours would be a wonderful addition to my authors tea bag collection. LOL :-) .
I am definitely a tea person. I love Hot tea in the mornings. I love iced tea in the afternoons, and hot tea again in the evenings…unless of course I’m offered hot chocolate, then the tea gets put aside.
I personally HATE (I know powerful word) the taste of coffee. My family says I make a great pot of coffee, and I like the smell of freshly brewed good coffee, but UCK! on the taste.
My family laughs at me because I like eating shortbread cookies with my tea. I sometimes dunk the cookies into the tea and I say “see you can’t do this with a cup of coffee, without ruining the cookie, this way just enhances it.”
So far my kids like tea, but they all say they can’t wait till we let them drink coffee.

  26. Ha ha, Joder! We’ve put police tape around you so it’s safe for the general public to pass at a respectful distance ;-) Thanks for swinging by. Coffee in the morning? I actually can’t drink coffee any more and that morning coffee is the one I miss! I console myself, however, with the thought that it never tasted as good as it smelled!

    1. Sorry about that, forgot to delete Joder’s message. My stuff stopped after the first para ;-)

  27. Vanessa, I was really interested when you told me about Pickwick tea being available in Holland. From what Tina said, I assumed it was an Aussie company. Yes, I know you’re a huge tea fan! Although I think my Liptons tea bags might be a bit beneath your dignity ;-)

  28. Dorthy, I laughed at your kids waiting to drink coffee the way some kids wait to drink beer! How cute is that? Actually I’m not a great dunker – I don’t like the residue from the cookie or croissant or whatever that gets left behind. Sadly, I’ve decided I’m VERY set in my ways. For example, I’ve only ever tried the classic Tim Tam (milk chocolate, yum!) because it’s so good, I can’t see the point of further exploration. I think I need my elves to stop writing my books and shake me out of my rut ;-) Perhaps a really handsome elf could even get me to like iced tea. Nah, I don’t think so either. But I’d like to see him try!

    1. Dorthy says:

A seduction scene featuring iced tea….that would be interesting. *goes off to ponder* ;)
I did check out my local Target for Tim Tams and I couldn’t find any :( But hopefully soon! I can’t wait to try these things.

  29. Actually, Dorthy, you’ve given me a great answer I can give when people ask me why I write Regencies – I can say, “Because they drank so much tea in the Regency!” Keep looking for the Tim Tams!

  30. Dianna says:

Hello Anna, I have one cup of coffee in the morning, heavily creamed and sugared and I am done. I never developed a taste for tea but then I only knew of one person in my whole family that drank it and that was cold and super sweet. I have a copy of Captive of Sin and well, let me just say no one could be disappointed in that read at all.

  31. Dianna, thank you so much for swinging by and for that lovely wrap for COS. Much appreciated! I think I’ve got in the habit of always having a hot drink at my elbow when I’m working and now I don’t drink coffee, tea is the beverage of choice.

  32. Jody F. (Joder) says:

Thank you so much! I’m absolutely giddy to finally have won this! Sending Anna my info now.
