Quick Six with Christie Kelley

Friday Fun! My amazing Bandita Buddy, Christie Kelley is our Quick Six guest today. Christie has answered 6 quick questions- and added one of her own. Answer Christie’s question in the comments section and we’ll draw one name to win a copy of Christie’s book: EVERY TIME WE KISS.  The winner will be posted on Sunday.  Now… this book rocks. You want to try and win this book – really really!!!

Plotter or Pantzer?
I’m a plotzer. That would be a little of both. I have to have my opening scene before I can begin to write. But I also need two big turning points and my dark moment so I can continue to write toward them. Other than that, I prefer to let my characters take the story where they need it to go. And sometimes that means revising the ideas in my head about the turning points and black moment.

Historical or Contemporary?
I love historical romance. That’s probably why I write it. But I’ve found when I’m writing, I prefer not to read historical. I think I’m afraid I’ll subconsciously take something from another book. So when I’m writing, I tend to read contemporary or contemporary paranormal.

Crossword or Word Search?
Neither. I’m a huge Sudoku addict. I love trying to get the right numbers to fit into the little squares. I have a Sudoku book in the car for when I’m waiting on kids. I take it to baseball practice, and I do the one in the daily newspaper every day.

Reading or Writing?
Great question. Today? It’s reading! I just turned in my 3rd book to my editor and I need a break from writing. So I’m searching through my TBR pile for something new.

Email or Letters?
I hate writing letters. Before email, my mother would get mad at me because she would write these long letters and then I’d call her up to respond. She really wanted me to write her back. I’ve been on email since the early 90s. Thankfully, my mother is on it too. But she still sends me letters.

Whipped cream or chocolate syrup?
Really? I have to choose? Why can’t I have both? Oh, this is the toughest one yet. I think I’m going to have to go with whipped cream. I love whipped cream but try to avoid it for the obvious reason that I find it later on my thighs. When I get a Starbucks, it’s always minus the whipped cream. But there is nothing better than ice cream with chocolate syrup and whipped cream.

And Christie’s question to you: Alpha, Beta or Gamma?

everytime-we-kissDon’t forget, post in the comments your answer to Christie’s question for a shot at winning her awesome new release. What’s it about? Check this out:

GUILT KEPT THEM APART
It’s been five years since Lady Jennette Selby’s fiancé died. Each courting season since has been filled with suitors eager to win her affection. But Jennette’s guilt has prompted her to swear off marriage. For her secrets are as dark as she is beautiful, and the accidental death of her fiancé was tainted by a forbidden attraction…

PASSION BROUGHT THEM TOGETHER
Matthew Harris, the new earl of Blackburn, has been scorned by the ton for unintentionally killing Lady Jennette’s fiancé. Forced to sell his estates and abandon his tenants if he does not marry a wealthy, respectable woman, Matthew turns to Lady Jennette to help him find a suitable wife. But sharing such close quarters only re-ignites an all-consuming desire neither can resist–even as every shadow of the past threatens to tear them apart….

Are we talking real life or reading life? I love to read about Alpha males but in real life, give me a Beta. If I had to live with another Alpha male there would be a murder done for sure.

  2. Tawny says:

LOL Dianna. I hear ya. Alpha’s are totally hot between the pages (and prolly between the sheets *g*) but in real life? Totally different story.

  3. Dianna, I laughed at your comment because it’s so true! I love to read and write about alpha males but I’m not sure I would want to be married to one.

  4. deb harkness says:

i’m going with Gamma, basically since i’ve no clue what type of man a Gamma is.

an Alpha would annoy me too much and a Beta… can he be occasionally Alpha? or is that cheating?

hmmm… definitely Gamma then. it may be a good surprise for me.

i’m also a Sudoku geek. the blurb for the book has got my interest up. so many great books… so little budget *heavy sigh*

  5. Hi Deb,

I’m not quite sure what a gamma is either. I think he might be a combination of alpha and beta. Maybe Tawny can clear that one up.

It’s always nice to meet another Sudoku geek. My husband hates them :)

Glad to hear the blurb caught your interest. I’m in the Zebra debut program so this book is only $4.99, almost a bargain!

  6. CrystalGB says:

I love alphas in books but I think I would prefer a beta in real life. Every Time We Kiss sounds good. :)

  7. limecello says:

Oh my gosh – the book blurb! I want it! Who could resist a story like that?
Great questions and answers, ladies. As for your question… lol I’m going with Alpha, Beta, *and* Gamma! But that’s mostly because I’m seconding deb on not having any clue what a “Gamma” is.
And, I don’t mind/like alphas or betas in books, or real life. :)

  8. Laura says:

Hi! Fun answers, Christie. And a fun question.

I have to go with the prior answers. I have no idea what a Gamma is. So, that sounds fun! (Even though alphas are great in fiction).

    Laura

  9. Beth Andrews says:

Hey, Christie and Tawny! What a fun post – I love Sudoku too but had to go cold turkey as I was becoming quite the addict *g*

I have Every Time We Kiss in my tbr pile and can’t wait to read it!

I’m going to pick gamma as my fave although I like all types of heroes :-)

  10. Hi Crystal! It’s funny how most women prefer a beta :)

  11. Limecello, thanks about the blurb. I wish I could say I wrote it but I didn’t. Kensington’s marketing dept. did a great job on it and the cover.

  12. Hi Laura, I love how people will take a gamma and we’re not sure what one is :)

  13. Teresa says:

Oh Christie, good advice. I am learning to be a plotzer. I over-plot.
I had the alpha guys, but I’ve kept my mostly beta guy for 34 years. If gamma means he fluxuates between the two, maybe he’s a gamma. I’d like to see the definition on gamma.
Every Time We Kiss—love the title!

  14. Hi Beth, cold turkey on Sudoku! Nooo! Thanks for stopping by!

  15. Hi Teresa, I’ve kept my mostly beta guy for 25 years. I guess I’ll keep him :)

I love the title too. My editor and I were debating between Every Time We Touch and Every Time We Kiss. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Every Time We Touch for my 3rd title.

  16. Quilt Lady says:

I love them all. There is a time and place for each type of hero!

  17. Great sentiment, quilt lady!

  18. Fedora says:

Hi, Christie! What Quilt Lady said! And hmm… maybe throw in a delta, epsilon, and phi, too ;) Just for variety’s sake, you know! And what are you reading right now? Any recent raves? (Besides Tawny’s latest, of course!)

  19. Hi Fedora! I love the delta, epsilon guys :)

I am reading an older Hannah Howell. I haven’t read a medieval in such a long time and I’d forgotten how much I like them. I feel a stretch of medievals coming up.

  20. Christie, congrats on the new book!

I think most alphas need a smack round the head. Give me a smartass skinny guy with nice hands any day.

  21. LOL, Janet! Thanks for popping in.

  22. Dianna says:

I was thinking that if Alpha is alpha, then Betas are a little more managable with Alpha moments, then Gamma has to be totally manageable and I don’t think I want that either.
No Deb it isn’t cheating if a Beta has Alph moments, that is part of the Beta’s charm.
