Friday Fun! Fabulous author, Betty Hanawa is our Quick Six guest today. Betty has answered 6 quick questions- and added one of her own. Answer Betty’s question in the comments section and a winner will be posted on Sunday to win a print copy of her wonderful book, A Balanced Heart. If the winner is outside the U.S., she’ll send them a pdf copy.

1. Historical or Contemporary? Contemporary. Past is past, I’m willing to study it and learn from it but don’t want to live in it.
2. Light or Dark? Either kind of chocolate, preferably with nuts and/or caramel
3. Brains or Brawns? Brains are always thinking of interesting things to do.
4. Reading or Writing? Reading: was a reader before becoming a writer, will be a reader when I quit writing.
5. Diamond or Pearl? Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. Go for the glitz.
6. Batman, Spiderman or Superman? Steve Stronghold/The Commander from “Sky High”

And Betty’s question to you: Beach or mountains?

  1. Dianna says:

That would be one vote for mountains from me. Beaches are beautiful but my complexion doesn’t “DO” sun.

    1. Tawny says:

I’m a big fan of floppy hats, Dianna *g* You know, the shade a small country sized ones? I love sitting in the warm sun under a huge hat. That said, I love sitting on top of a mountain too LOL.

  2. Betty Hanawa says:

Lucky me lives close enough to the beach that we go in late afternoon or evening. Still light enough and warm enough to enjoy the beach without the intensity of the sun.

    1. Tawny says:

Ooooh, a beach at sunset. Now thats romantic!!

of course, so is a mountain at sunrise.

Ya know, can’t I just have both?

  3. Tammy Garcia says:

I prefer the mountains. Mountians gets my vote.

  4. Terri says:

Well, I love the mountains, but the beach just plain soothes my soul. (I think it’s the ions in the ocean breezes.) But I’m like Dianna – I never lay out in the sun and bake. It’s sunscreen, a ball cap, and preferably the shade of a nice umbrella for me!

    Cute cover, Betty!

  5. Stephanie says:

My imagination has me living close to both :D I love ocean breezed and the wild fun that can be had but I also love the still majesty and lil surprises you find on a mountain.

  6. Mary Ricksen says:

It’s the mountains for me. I was born in Vermont and it’s in my blood. Less wrinkles from less son too!
I live so close to the beach, but never go there anymore. The sun is just too blasting here in South Florida, you could fry an egg in the hot sand!

  7. Anna Sugden says:

Definitely beach for me, though I do love mountains. I’m a sun gal, but these days my skin seems to burn more easily than it used to (age and hormones probably – uggh!). Nothing quite like a day on the beach to recharge the batteries!

I find water (ocean, river, lake etc) very soothing – odd for a Leo!

  8. Ah, the beach. There’s nothing like walking along the sand, with the waves sucking at your feet, holding the hand of the one you love. *dreamy sigh* There’s something about the sound of the water lapping at the shore that instantly sooths your soul.

  9. Jody F. says:

Oh, definitely beaches! Especially since it just started snowing here and were supposed to get 3-5 inches. Brrrr!

  10. Betty Hanawa says:

Having been in mountains, I can see their appeal, Tammy. Thanks for joining us today.

  11. Betty Hanawa says:

Thank for the comment on the cover, Terri. It’s one of my favorites. For me, the slush of the waves and the scent is what pulls me to the ocean. Have you tried one of the salt pillar candle holders? It’s supposed to recreate the ions we breath at the ocean.

  12. Betty Hanawa says:

LOL, Stephanie. We have a military friend from Southern California who loves living there for that reason, close to both the beach and the mountains.

  13. Betty Hanawa says:

Mary, I grew up in flat land and am always in awe of the beauty whenever we travel to mountainous areas. In the summer, the only time I go onto the beach is late afternoon or early evening, after the intense heat of the day. No, I don’t do sunrise at the beach. That’s too early.

  14. Betty Hanawa says:

That is a bit odd for a Leo, Anna, but I think the pull of the ocean is a primeval thing within humans. High SPF sunscreen and a big hat and sunglasses, Anna.

  15. Betty Hanawa says:

Debra, I have a “white” noise machine. My favorite setting is waves. I also have a CD that is no more than a recording of waves. I use it when I meditate.

  16. Betty Hanawa says:

I feel for you with the snow, Jody. My area of Texas is filled right now with mid-Westerners and Canadians who live here during the winter to escape the snow. And they adore our beach.

  17. Betty Hanawa says:

I’m a big floppy hat woman, too. Love ‘em. But you can keep sunrise. It’s too early. I have a nightshirt that says, “If you wake me up, you’d better have a high tolerance for pain.” I like the vampire shift.

  18. Estella says:

It’s the beach for me! Sun, sand and surf and only 20 miles away.

  19. Joan Woods says:

Since I live five minutes from the beach I would have to go for the mountains.

  20. Betty Hanawa says:

We’re 40 miles from the beach, Estella. I love it.

  21. Fedora says:

Hi, Betty! I think the beach, although I’m not much of a sun-worshipper–I find watching the waves soothing (read, hypnotic ;) ) It’s just such a big world out there! Loved your answers–there’s lots of reading to be done out there! What are you reading these days? Any favorites to suggest?

  22. Betty Hanawa says:

Want to experience something different, do you Joan?

  23. Betty Hanawa says:

    Hey Fedora,
How’s it going? Terri Garey’s You’re the One that I Haunt came from Amazon yesterday with the new JD Robb so I’m itching to get to those. I’ve also got Tawny’s Risque Business and Kath Long’s When a Stranger Calls. Plus I picked up two Nocturnes: Alpha Wolf by Linda O. Johnston and Dragon’s Lair by Denise Lynn. Tawny talked me into joining the eHarlequin Book Challenge so I’m rereading my friend’s back titles and finding new books from the Harlequin lines that pique my interests.

If the college kids weren’t already beginning to come in for Spring Break, I’d think about renting a hotel room with a balcony and just listen to the ocean and read.

  24. Debby says:

I would be mountains. If I want to get some sun. There are ponds and lakes nearby.

  25. Sheila Raye says:

    Hi Betty!!!
    Mountains —
snow capped with a hot tub on the back deck
hot toddy served by the fireplace
No where to go, nothing to do but snuggle in.

Yeah. Thanks for the momentary vacation of the mind.

  26. Beth Andrews says:

    Hey, Betty and Tawny!

I love Sky High – great pick for fave superhero :-)

I’d pick the beach over the mountains since I live in a valley now and wouldn’t mind a change of scenery *g*

  27. stacey Kayne says:

    I can’t choose!!!! Love them equally :)

    Hi’ya, Betty!!!

  28. Paisley Kirkpatrick says:

I live in the beautiful Sierra Mountains, but the beach is pulling me if it is in front of an ocean. :)

If you throw in a voolyball game of barechested hunks, it would clinch my choice.

  29. Betty Hanawa says:

Debby, I’ve been mostly in the Rockies. I love the little brooks at the feet of some of the mountains and the waterfalls that slide down the granite.

  30. Betty Hanawa says:

Sheila–how about an nice warm Irish coffee, too? Real Irish coffee with Jamison’s, not a coffee liqueur.

  31. Betty Hanawa says:

Stacey, I know you, you love the plains with hot cowboys riding across them. LOL

  32. Betty Hanawa says:

Yeah, Beth, Sky High was great, especially Lynda Carter saying, “Who do you think I am? Wonder Woman?” There’s a Wonder Woman cuff in one of the gifty catalogs that I’d love to have.

  33. Betty Hanawa says:

Paisley, you want bare-chested hunks playing volleyball in the beach because you’ve been snowed in for so many weeks. Come visit me next winter and we’ll go to the beach. We don’t want to go now since the bare-chested Spring Breakers playing volleyball are usually so drunk they trip over themselves.

  34. Virna says:

I just walked on the beach with a friend of mine in Santa Cruz today. It feels like home. Wish it were home! :)

  35. Mona Risk says:

Beach, day and night. I can’t spend a day without looking at the ocean. I love your answers Betty, and your bookcover is adorable.

  36. Quilt Lady says:

I know I am late posting, but I love both the beach and the mountains. I don’t think I could choose. The mountains are so cool an beautiful but watching the ocean is so peaceful too!

    1. Tawny says:

It is a hard choice, isn’t it? I have trouble with that one, except for the fact that my most recent visit to the mountain involved snow up to my, um, hips *g* and given that its cold and rainy right now, the beach sounds fabulous LOL

  37. Betty Hanawa says:

Thanks so much for joining Tawny & me over the past couple of days. It’s been fun reading everyone’s responses. Using a random number generator Tawny supplied, the winner of a print copy of BALANCED HEART is poster #8: Debra St. John. Congratulations, Debra. Please email me your snail address betty@bettyhanawa.com

Thanks for joining Tawny and me!

  38. I’m so thrilled! Thanks Tawny and Betty!
