Romance and the movies
What’s your favorite type of movie? Have you noticed a relationship trend to the types of movies you prefer and your reading habits? As a rule, I’m a total romantic comedy reader, but when it comes to movies I’m all over the fantasy and comic book hero flicks. I do go see the rom com movies, but for whatever reason they don’t seem to spark the same OMG WOW factor that, oh say Ironman did. Maybe its the adrenaline rush? The semi-naked hunk running around kicking butt? The save the world aspect? I’m not sure.
But as much as I love those type movies, I’m not so much into reading them. What was incredible about the Lord of the Rings series (and I saw them each in theaters at least 3 times, then on dvd tons more) just doesn’t translate the same in a book. I could barely slog through the depth and detail of the LOTR books and never felt the same connection to the characters as I did to Elijah Wood and Viggo Mortenson’s depictions. And Batman? I grew up with the comics (and the Adam West TV show *g*) and my brother was a total Batman fiend… but in print, he’s just an eh so so character for me. Put him on the big screen and hubba-da-hubba. Again, maybe its the visual hunk?
But the rom com movies, as light and enjoyable as they are, always seem to be the ones I can wait to get on DVD rather than ponying up to the movie theater to see. Yet these are my favorite books, my absolute first choice relaxation genre. And as much as I love Blazes, and really enjoy the hot reads, I don’t want to see them on screen.
Wierd, huh?
How about you? Do your reading and viewing tastes mesh or go in different directions?

My reading and movie tastes seem to jive pretty well. I like action heroes, and I’d like to see more of the type of heroines I read about in the movies. Sure, Ironman was a fun movie, but I’d love to see movie about a female superhero, and one that wasn’t related to another male superhero, like Elektra was. I’m jonesing for the Wonder Woman movie, in other words.
I don’t much enjoy the rom com movies, but I don’t mind reading that in Romance novels once in a while. Honestly, it’s been your books that have brought me back to reading Harlequin.

Oh yeah, I’m chomping at the bit for a Wonder Woman movie! She had such cool boots!!! I barely remember Elektra details, I’ll have to look her up on Google *g*.
and YAY for your return to Harlequin! I’m so glad, and definitely flattered

I am like you - I get the romantic movies on DVD, but usually see the blockbusters in the theater. We rarely end up buying those (except Iron Man. Ohhhh, yeah.) Right now I’m reading a few, ahem, Graphic Novels, but my tastes almost always trend toward romance.

LOL, so you did like Ironman, huh Mary? Me too - bigtime.
I enjoyed seeing Indiana Jones too - but honestly if my kid didn’t work at the theater and get us in cheap, I’d have happily waited for it to hit DVD. But I do want to go see Sex and the City (which is prolly closest to my Blaze writing… maybe LOL) if only to see all the awesome fashions and SHOES on the big screen.
Shoes, bigger than life. About the only thing that’d get me more excited that Robert Downey Jr.’s sexy biceps bigger than life LOL.
