The evil blue screen of death
I’m traveling this week, which is usually a great thing. As long as I have my laptop, its like home away from home where ever I am. This week, Las Vegas! Except I got here, opened my laptop to take care of a few priorities, and poof - nothing. Its blank. Nada. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH. After much hair tugging, emploring of the computer gods and panic, I had to accept the ugly truth. My laptop had died (I got a second, and third techie opinion, though). I didn’t even have time for mourning, since I HAD to have internet access for my FTHRW workshop and eHarlequin chat, as well as having Art Fact Sheets due.
So… new laptop time. Since I’ve only had good luck with Dell (well, the blue screen of death might argue that, but the laptop was old and had given her all) I was pretty determined to have another Dell. Lucky for me, they carry a few models in the stores now. So my first couple days in Vegas weren’t spent in the casinos or at the shows (altho we did take a few drives down the strip to watch the lights and shows), they were spent in computer stores
But now I’m up and running, back on the ball and ready to rock. And as much as I loved my old laptop (it was soooo pretty) I’m actually starting to feel a great deal of affection for this new one, Vista and all.
So, have you ever been hit in the face with a “disaster” and found the solution was better than what you had before?

Tawny, so sorry about the laptop, to a writer they are our lifeline.
My laptop died after 7 years of faithful service. I fought and fought about getting a new one because the old one’s company had been bought out and weren’t the same. So, finally I caved in and went to Circuit City, told the geek my needs, and he found my new baby. BIG screen, limited junk pre-installed, and awesome keyboard I love. So, it’s all good.
