Spontaneous Goal Setting

Filed under: Writing Stuff, Promotion, Writing Life — January 3, 2008 @ 2:40 am

It might come as a shock to a few people to find out I’m an avid goal setter. Really! ;) I had a lot of fun blogging over at Fresh Fiction today about the difference between goal focused people vs spontaneous people and realized in the process how totally opposite Isabel and Dante (Does She Dare? out now) are. Isabel is the Queen of Goal Setting, her Man Plan being the perfect example. Dante is all about the freedom of not knowing where he’ll be tomorrow (and the thrill of knowing it won’t be his hometown LOL). You’d think the two of them would clash hugely, yet they don’t. Instead they are the perfect balance for each other.

I love that :-)

How about you? Are you more into the goal setting or the spontaneous journey? How does that balance out with the people around you? Do you find yourself struggling with opposites, or are you surrounded by people who dance to the same tune you do?

Let me know! and hey, if you have a minute, stop on by the Fresh Fiction blog and say hi :)

I’m a goal-focused person who married a spontaneous guy. He gets me out of my head and I, I dunno, I get him to think about what he wants for lunch sometimes. He is at his best when he’s winging it, though, so it works for him.

Me, without a color coded appointment calendar I’m kind of a basket case.

OK, so I’m a basketcase regardless. But I hide is more easily behind my index cards.

I am a mixture of both I think…sometimes I set goals and sometimes I go with the flow. People used to make fun of my color-coded organization in college…but it helped me keep track of everything.

You know, you inspired me a bit and I decided to make some reading goals this year and invited others to do the same on my blog. I will check in on my blog periodically to see how everyone is doing…it is just for fun though…no pressure.

You gotta run with what works for you, huh, Lisa? It sounds like your hubby’s got it figured out :-) LOL about hiding behind the index cards… I hope you mean the colored kind?

Jennifer, YAY - I’m so excited to inspire you :-) What a great goal!!! I’ll have to stop in and see how its going. BTW, ignore the color-coding mockers. They used to make fun of me too. Hmm… they still might LOL.
