Monday’s Quote
If I’d observed all the rules, I’d never have got anywhere. ~ Marilyn Monroe
In writing, we often hear about the rules. Then we hear about breaking the rules. Just like in life.
What rules are absolute for you? and which ones are breakable.

I’m not trying to be sarcastic, but the only rules I really follow are the basic ones, oh and protocol between me and the industry folks.
I write what I want. Then again, I’m probably so trained at this point, I’m likely oblivious to the rules now. :wink_ee:
I try to write out of the box, but that box changes shape and dimension faster than my son is growing! :blank_ee:

There are rules? Darn, why did no one tell me? Just kidding.
I like to know the basic rules of grammar and punctuation, they keep me on track. I’m sure there must be a rule about ‘must have beginning, middle, and end.’ After that, it’s all fair game. LOL

LOL Diana… we are probably well trained, aren’t we? And like you say, the box is constantly shifting so, really, it comes down to writing OUR story, our way, huh?
Jill - I think there are rules. I always hear about them LOL. Honestly, In my published book(s) I’ve broken plenty of “have to’s” I got dinged for in contests, which tells me that some of the rules are things that writers watch much closer than editors care about.
Bottom line, it’s all about the story.
