Nerves
I clean when I’m nervous. Or pace, or babble, or anything that lets me move. I am picturing myself at the Nat’l conference giving my workshop, bouncing in place behind the podium.
You’d think I’d have been nervous when my book hit the shelves 2 weeks ago - but it was such a surprise to see it early, I didn’t have time. Then - poof, it was there, so why be nervous?
But this next week I have my first booksigning (and its a doozy, with some authors who I admire SO much! And its a Mother’s Day event, plus, I was the PAN Liasion for the chapter that is putting it on so if it flops, I’m responsible) on Saturday, then another next Saturday and my launch party on Sunday.
To keep from worrying about the first signing (which yes, I am concerned with–its the first, after all. And that responsibility thing), or the second (which I’m really NOT worried about. Worst case, I hang out with some authors and chitchat. And two hours in a bookstore - hey, that rocks) I’m forcusing on the party.
My awesome and wonderful SIL and brother are handling the party (my hubby’s in charge of the cake *g*) so my only thing to do is clean. And garden. Seems easy enough - except for the nervous part.
So my cleaning turned into a “lets take everything out of the cabinets, throw stuff out, reorganize and maybe move thing around a few times”. It’s a toss up whose looking forward to the party kicking off more, me or my husband because then he’s done with any wild ideas I come up with.
See…. babbling nervously in the blog, too.
So -bottom line, what makes a successful booksigning in your opinion? Writer or reader standpoint? I have a basket of goodies for the raffle. I have books. I have giveaways. I have chocolates. I’d think thats covered it all, right?
