To be or not to be…
Artistic, that is.
My brother said something to me today that had me wondering. We were discussing deadlines, timelines and general perceptions and whether or not people seem to expect a certain degree of… shall we say flakiness? from artistic types.
Now, he would know. He’s an artist by the standard definition (as opposed to a writer, who is creative and can be considered an artist but maybe not) who makes his living off his drawings (dude is damned good, too - that graphic at the top of the website is his work), as well as being the art director for a well known local company. So he’s spent a lot of years dealing with these perceptions, realistic of not.
For me, they are just wierd. I mean, I have a deadline, my goal is to be early. Granted, I work better under pressure (possibly a flaky factor?) but except for last years Golden Heart entry (which I wrote in a month) I’ve been pretty good at working in a timeframe without too much stress (I probably drive my cp’s nuts tho)
So what’s with the flaky image? Maybe its that ‘head in the clouds’ perception? Or the dreamer/visionary angle? Do you think it applies to all artists, writers? People in general?
Where do you fall on the flake graph? High end? Low end? Somewhere in the comfy middle?

I think people see me as a very solid, down-to-earth person. But the people who know me really well know I’m a total ditz. I’m an intelligent girl, but if someone asks me to get some water for them while I’m getting it for myself I will never remember. And the amount of time I spend daydreaming, I don’t know how I get any work done.
