Celebrating the moments
A wise woman once told me we need to make sure we celebrate each step of this wild writing ride. Not just the big “oooh, I sold” moments, but each achievement. Its all those little steps that lead up to the big leaps.Â
I know women who buy jewelry to commemorate some events (sales, GH/RITA, hitting best seller lists) and other who create charm bracelets for each story they’ve written (what a visual affirmation of that story!).
Me? I went with shoes. Well, boots to be exact. I love shoes, boots, footwear of all kinds. I had a favorite pair of black suede boots, one of my very first (and few) splurges I’d bought about 15 years ago. I loved them. Then my dog ate one. Not just nibbled, ate the whole damned thing.Â
They finally came back into style a few years ago, but the cost was ghastly. No way was I paying that, I’d think as I glared at the dog.Â
So my big celebratory commemoration of my sale was a pair of boots. I love them. I figure, each time I sell a book, I’ll get footwear. Practical, yet extravagant.Â

Purty boots Tawny! I like the way you think! We should all have special celebration things to buy!
