Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes
So many people I know are in the middle of revisions.
Maybe its a pacing thing, the cyclic nature of our writing paths, or just the alingment of the stars - but myself and a couple of my CP’s are all in the revisions stage.
Not the “sold, now revise it before it goes to publication” revisions. But the “I like your story, a lot of it rocks, but before I commit, you need to fix these things” revisions.
Its an amazing learning experience. As pre-published writers, we spend alot of time trying to learn the craft, polish our stories and just “get it right”. We read industry news, submission guidelines and current books by lines and houses to get a feel for what’s in and what works. We get critiques, feedback, and even enter contests to see if we’re on the mark.
But to hear from an editor or agent what is actually right or wrong with the story - thats really enlightening. To see it from a multitude of editors perspectives on different manuscripts is GREAT.
Of course, figuring out how to actually apply it all is another story
When I first read my letter, I thought I had the changes I’d make figured out. But the further I get into the revisions (I’m at the halfway point now, and the bulk of the plot changes will be in these later chapters) the more I worry I might miss something.
No clue what, but something.
Maybe that paranoia will make the story better
Either way, my goal is mailing this baby off by the end of the month. I’m on track, as long as I don’t let that paranoia slow me down
