Revisions and rejections… oh my

So I get this call last week – an editor whose had the full of NAUGHTY VEGAS NIGHTS since late last summer, and the partial of my Blaze winner, UNDERCOVER SEDUCTION, since fall.

Wait, lets back up. A little background. This was a Tues morning. My youngest daughter had been sick since Sat, her fever hitting 105 at one point and I hadn’t slept more than two hours at a stretch since Fri due to temp checks, cool spongebaths and general mommy freaking.

The phone rings and my oldest daughter looks at the caller ID and rattles off a number we don’t recognize. Too tired to care and knowing she can blow off a telemarketer, I shrug and tell her to answer it. She tells me its this editor and I just stared. No way. She nods and shoves the phone at me.

So – I love this editor. She’s fun, funny and my dream-editor for years. She tells me she has good news and bad news. I’m too tired to even react when she tells me she’s passing on the full.

Then she tells me about the revisions she wants on the partial. I LOVE these ideas -they keep the integrity of my vision of the story, but just… well, expand it. Make it bigger, better. Cool, I’m on board.

We chit chat a bit more, and despite the rejection, I feel great about the whole deal.

So I’m tossing ideas at my CP later, and she asks me to clarify one point… and boom – a simple, straight forward revision explodes into this huge, awesome idea that has me so excited I can’t sit still.

I have to pitch it still, but if it flies, lets just say I’m gonna be having a wild ole time with this story. I’m hoping the editor is open to it. If not, well, I’ll tuck it aside for my next ST.

But I want it soooo bad for UNDERCOVER SEDUCTION. I really really do – so cross your fingeres for me!
